Medicine Hat, AB (May 7, 2021) AHS has identified an additional case of COVID-19 connected toEcole Crescent Heights High School. As a result, AHS has directed some students and staff to quarantine for a specified time periodWe have conducted a thorough investigation, as a result, all close contacts of the positive case have been identified and quarantined. To date, AHS has identified COVID-19 cases connected to our school. We are confident, based on AHS guidance, that those who have not been directed to quarantine can go about their daily lives.

We will support this individual and their family and wish them a safe and speedy recovery. We ask families and students to show compassion and kindness for those that have been impacted by a positive COVID-19 case. As always, we will work collectively to foster a safe, caring and welcoming school environment.

Every day nearly 8000 students and staff enter our schools, making them the most densely populated buildings in the city. It is not possible for us to stop COVID-19 from spreading in our schools. We are, however, committed to working together to protect our school community, reduce exposure and limit the spread.

The health and safety of our students and staff is our priority and we continue to perform enhanced cleaning and proper hand hygiene protocols in schools.
We have worked with AHS to build and continually review our practices. We have directed our custodial services team to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols before students and staff come back into the building. This additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present along with high touch areas and surfaces throughout the school. The daily health measures that we have in place at our school are effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

With the recent additional health measures most of our students will be learning at home, however we will continue to notify our school community when we become aware of additional COVID-19 cases that are connected to our school. During the temporary online learning period we will still have some staff and students coming into the school building and we will remain open by appointment. We remind staff/visitors/volunteers to our school to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist. If you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.  For more information about positive COVID-19 cases in school please read COVID-19 in Schools (k-12) setting.

Rest assured that we will continue to work closely with AHS and the Medical Officer of Health in the South Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations. Please contact the school at kelly.pitman@sd76.ab.ca or 403.527.6641 Monday with your questions. We will continue to provide information to parents and guardians as it is available, thank you for your continued support.

Medicine Hat, AB (May 6, 2021)

Re: AHS notification - 2 or more cases of COVID-19 at Crescent Heights High School. We would like to follow up with parents and staff to provide an update on the current COVID-19 cases at CHHS. There have been 5 positive cases of COVID-19 connected to CHHS within the last 28 days. We believe, based on the AHS investigation and guidance that one of these cases was potentially the result of in-school spread, however this case was already in quarantine when they tested positive. All staff and students identified as close contacts of the positive cases have been quarantined and there is no additional risk of spread from these cases.

Every day nearly 8000 students and staff enter our schools, making them the most densely populated buildings in the city. It is not possible for us to stop COVID-19 from spreading in our schoolsWe are, however, committed to working together to protect our school community, reduce exposure and limit the spread.

We know that it may be difficult to hear of a rising number of cases at CHHS and in our community. We continue our diligence with health and safety measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We are confident, based on AHS guidance, that any staff member or student that has not been identified as a close contact can go about their lives  safely.
