On Alert: Positive COVID-19 Case at CHHS

November 21, 2020Positive case of COVID-19 identified at Crescent Heights High School

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has identified a positive case of COVID-19 in aindividualat CHHS. As a result, AHS has directed some students and staff to isolate for a specified time period. All close contacts of the positive case have been identified and are already self-isolating.

We will support this individual and their family and wish them a safe and speedy recovery. We ask families and students to show compassion and kindness for those that have been impacted by positive COVID-19case. As always, we will work collectively to foster a safe, caring and welcoming school environment.

We know that it may be difficult to hear of a rising number of cases in our community. To this point, each positive case that has been identified in an MHPSD school, including all cases at CHHS have been contracted outside of the school. We will continue to inform families each time there is a positive case of COVID-19 at our school.

We are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to keep our entire school community safe.
It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to isolate can attend school safely. Siblings and family members of close contacts are not required to self-isolate, however they are asked to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

We remind ALL parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to
Crescent Heights High School to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please remember to complete the Alberta Daily Health Check each day prior to attending school.

Out of an abundance of caution, and as we continue our focus on preventing the spread of COVID-19, we have directed our custodial services team to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols prior to the start of school on Monday. This additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present along with high touch areas and surfaces throughout the school.

As a reminder, if your child has any symptoms of COVID-19 listed on the Alberta Health Daily Checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and keep them home. For more information about positive COVID-19 cases in school please read COVID-19 in Schools (k-12) setting.

The health and safety of our students and staff is our priority. We know this news can be distressing, rest assured that we will continue to work closely with AHS and the Medical Officer of Health in the South Zone to ensure that we follow their ongoing recommendations. Please contact communications@sd76.ab.ca or call 403.977.9086  with your questions. We will continue to provide additional information to parents/guardians as it is available, thank you for your continued support.
