MHPSD high school students attended the Public School Boards Association of Alberta - Student Voice Conference in Edmonton. The purpose of the Student Voice Conference is to demonstrate that our students do have a voice, one that we value and want to ensure we listen to. We include opportunities to chat with our trustees, so that students can tell us what is important, what is working well, and what they would like to see changed or enhance in the education system.  It is a learning opportunity, where students are taught skills that they can take back to their schools to influence change; specifically this year we are focusing on Media Relations and Public Speaking.

Our students learned about building a sense of self efficacy and what they can do to spark change in their schools and community. They were taught the importance of communication, and how fostering relationships can lead to social change; while being guided through the skills required to enact long-term meaningful change. A final, yet paramount learning opportunity was articulated through inclusion, teaching students the importance of understanding and respecting diverse viewpoints.
