WHAT WE HEARD FROM PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: we have heard that you are expressly concerned about the social, emotional, mental and physical well being of your children, along with the negative educational impact of not being able to attend school in person. Further to this,

You have also shown significant unease about the prospect of your child participating in elearning again in the fall, reporting that you are concerned about:

  • The impact elearning will have on student learning
  • Consistency of education delivery across the system
  • Feedback for student learning
  • Evaluation of student learning
  • Building and maintaining relationships between students, teachers and parents

With this in mind, we understand that more than half of our families are not comfortable with their child participating in elearning in September. We have also heard that some families did not have access to an appropriate device (or enough devices) for all their children to participate in eLearning effectively.

To answer many of the questions that were brought forward from the parent and students surveys, we have developed a Back to School - Scenario 1 FAQ document.

P&G Summary

WHAT WE HEARD FROM STUDENTS: we have heard that you are concerned about your social, emotional and mental health needs, along with the negative educational impact of not being able to attend school in person.

Further to this, if eLearning happens again in the future, you have helped us to understand what supports you will need in order to be successful in your education.

  • Structured class schedules, along with clear direction and guidance from teachers
  • A variety of different options for accessing teacher support.
  • Access to peer support
  • Out of class support for educational, social/emotional and mental health needs
  • Access to the appropriate technology required to do the work
  • Consistent expectations across all grade levels, manageable course loads
  • Consistent use of online learning software (ie google classroom)
  • Enhanced communication to build and maintain relationships virtually.

We understand that many students are very keen on getting back into the classroom and we are grateful that we will return to school in a near normal scenario in September.
